[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:500;] [atrb=align, middle][classy=box][classy=sicon][/classy][classy=txt] Ricky, sober?!. >> Berry/Dawn[/classy][/classy] [style=background-color:A8A8A8; border-left: 3px solid #CD0000; border-right: 3px solid #CD0000; padding:10px;] There was something almost ethereal about the small oregon town at night. It was like everything stood still at midnight, and you could practically hear all of the life stop at once.
Ricky was addicted to that feeling instead of the drugs now.
Window lights turned off one by one, and the hispanic mechanic found it calming. A sense of peace that not many found at this time of the night washed over him. He was sober for once, and that helped. He still walked around like normal, recently favoring the sensation of walking instead of driving in the small town. His goggles rode in his always messy hair; without them his head felt off-kilter and weird.
It was certainly queer, having such a sense of calmness. Usually on edge and tense, this new feeling was very close to his drug highs. It was unnerving to revisit those feelings in a different medium. If he had known he could have achieved this feeling without drugs, maybe the intensive rehab wouldn't have been necessary.
Tired legs took him to the familiar window of long-time fellow night-roamer Dawn. How ironic was that? Her name was dawn but he came to her in the middle of the night, wanting someone to shake him of the eery calmness. He needed something to do, and Dawn was great at distracting him. After a short text sent up to her phone, Ricky sat on the curb in front of her residence, a slight breeze rolling through the town. He was unsettled, so when she appeared, Ricky quickly jumped up, eager to get going. To where? He didn't know.
"Thank god you're still awake. I thought the night was going to suffocate me." Ricky stuffed his hands into the pockets of his work jeans and started walking away, not looking to see if she had followed or not. "Got any plans tonight? I thought we'd visit an old friend of mine."

It was like that every night in her house so she would spend about a hour with her family before she locked herself up in her room. She could still hear his voice echo through the house and she had an upstairs bedroom. It was another one of those nights where she would toss and turn for hours before ever falling asleep. The moonlight peeked into her dark room. She could just sneak out and go get a drink or two with her best friend Hazel. She had to admit that sometimes she just wanted to escape the small town she lived in. She just didn’t feel like it was a place to call home anymore. Her phone began to go off to the song get well by icon for hire. It scared her enough to fall off her bed. She let out a groan as she reached up for her cell phone to read a text from Ricky.
She has followed that boy around since she was old enough to walk. She always admired him because well he was different. He had his issues like everyone else and the way he dealt with things was admirable. She pulled on a hoodie that had dog ears on the hood. Her window was easy to open as she swung her body out of the window onto the ground. It wasn’t that far of a jump and it was a trick she had learned about four years back. It helped her get out of many fights and drunken nights with her mother and step dad. She didn’t even get a chance to get a word in when he started to walk away. She ran up to him and punched him in the arm with a dark stare. “If I had plans tonight do you think I would be out with you?” She rolled her eyes as she placed her thumb into her pocket.
Ricky wasn’t the best role model in life but he seemed different that evening. She wondered if something was bothering him but she didn’t bother to ask him since he would just ignore her or push it aside. “My step dad started another fight so I decided to bail out. What friend are we going to see?” She shrugged at the comment of her step dad but looked up at him with her green eyes when she asked him what friend they were going to go see. [/style]

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:500;] [atrb=align, middle][classy=box][classy=sicon][/classy][classy=txt] Ricky, sober?!. >> Berry/Dawn[/classy][/classy] [style=background-color:A8A8A8; border-left: 3px solid #CD0000; border-right: 3px solid #CD0000; padding:10px;] Ricky smirked at her words. Yes, visiting her had been a good idea.
"Well, Yeah. I mean, who can resist this body?" The corners of Ricky's mouth turned up as she walked next to him. That was a good response for him. Perhaps he wasn't all weirded out as he had originally thought. Still, he was going to need his good friend, lest the demons catch up once more in the night. Sometimes, you just couldn't do it alone; that was the reason for Dawn tagging along. Besides, they hadn't hung out in a while... especially since he had come back from rehab.
Dawn went on to talk of her father problems. As a 'friend', Ricky was obligated to listen. But as a person, he didn't care much about it. Sure, the relationship between Dawn and her father was rocky, but he knew it wasn't well, serious. He of all people should understand, yet here he was refuting it. Ricky didn't want to hear of her problems necessarily, especially since his were so much more unfortunate. After all, his dad had abused him, walked out on his mother, only to come back years later as drunk as ever, demanding a place to stay. It was sick the way he thought he could just come back in their lives after all of the damage he had caused, just plain sick.
Ricky inhaled sharply, trying to get rid of the anger. Rehab told him to act nicer to people. His resolve since getting out made him listen to Dawn and her troubles. He needed to focus! Just because he was sober didn't mean that he was a better person. Listen to her. His father wasn't something to dwell on, let alone even begin to think about. This was supposed to be a night of forgetting things, not remembering moments that changed him. Why couldn't he just get that bit right?
Friend? What was sh- OH FRIEND. He didn't understand... he hadn't planned a meeting with friends, but yes, a very... er... special one. "Oh, the friend? Someone that I've been close to for a long time... you might have met them once or twice. They always know how to make a bad night better." Ricky chuckled, as he was talking about some fine alcohol he had procured, but he sounded like he was about to introduce Dawn to his new girlfriend or whatever. The hispanic was feeling pretty proud of himself for being able to pull this one over her eyes.
"It's just a little ways away, kind of behind the library... you're still game... right?" |
